Dr. Robert Collins taught Social Entrepreneurship Course at the College Education behind Bars inside Davao city Jail. Social Entrepreneurship is an emerging and rapidly changing business field that examines the practice of identifying, starting and growing successful mission-driven for profit and nonprofit ventures, that is, organizations that strive to advance social change through innovative solutions. This course is designed to provide a socially relevant academic experience in order to help students gain in-depth insights into economic and social value creation across a number of sectors/areas including poverty alleviation, energy, health and sustainability. Through case studies, lectures, and classroom dialogue, students will learn to think strategically and act opportunistically with a socially conscious business mindset. As the traditional lines blur between nonprofit enterprises, government and business, its critical that business students understand the opportunities and challenges in this new landscape. Students learn to develop business plan fro-social entrepreneur

 

Biographical Summary Bob Collins currently serves as Senior Lecturer and Executive in Residence, Management Department, College of Business, Texas A&M University – Commerce. His focus since joining the University from Industry in 1998 has been Entrepreneurship and Strategy and teaching the corresponding courses for the College of Business. He has served on various committees since joining the University’s faculty including Co-Chair of the University Strategic Planning Committee (2007-08) and Co-Chair of the University Strategic Plan Implementation Committee. (2008) He served as Chairman of the College of Business’ Strategic Plan Committee (2005-2013) and served as a member of the College’s Curriculum Committee (2012-2013). He served as Interim Head of the Computer Science and Information Systems Department in academic year 2007-08 and Interim Head of the Industrial Engineering and Technology Department in academic year 2006-07 where he organized the effort to achieve ABET accreditation for the Industrial Engineering program. Dr. Collins currently serves on the College’s Student and Alumni Committee. He led the effort to organize the first Small Business and Entrepreneurship Conference (SBECON) for the College. The initial conference was conducted in 2012 and has been successfully conducted each year since then. 2017 will be the 6 th annual SBECON to be held on campus. As a part of SBECON, Dr. Collins initiated the College’s Academy of Entrepreneurs in 2014. Each year, one to three successful entrepreneurs in the region are recognized with an emphasis on alumni of the University. Dr. Collins was previously a Vice-president and Corporate Officer for ESystems, Inc., a Fortune 500 Defense Electronics Company Headquartered in Dallas, where he was responsible for Corporate Strategic Planning, Domestic and International Marketing, Research & Development, and Government Relations. His organization included a 34 person legislative affairs office in Washington, D.C along with a number of regional and international marketing offices. Following E-Systems acquisition by Raytheon Corporation (1996), Dr. Collins transitioned to a residency in London, U.K., where he led in the establishment of a new corporate subsidiary for Raytheon and the formulation and execution of a strategy for capturing a $1.3B contract with the British Ministry of Defence. He previously was instrumental in E-System’s efforts to utilize proprietary technology in creating two new businesses to address non- defense markets. These businesses capitalized on advanced image processing technology in medical and satellite imaging. Curriculum Vitae J. Robert Collins 11/1/2017 Page 2 of 5 Dr. Collins has held director position on the boards of two publically traded corporations and one joint venture startup company (Space Imaging, Inc.; $250M joint venture, E-Systems and Lockheed-Martin). The most recent of these is with Xponential, Inc., a holding company formally based in Ft. Worth. He currently serves as a Founding Member and Chairman of the Collin County Community College District’s Board of Trustees where he has served since the beginning of the college in 1985. Bob has served his community for many years most notably as City Councilman and Mayor Pro-tem for the City of Plano and more recently as a member and chairman of the Farmersville Economic Development Corporation. In 2007 he was honored with Inside Collin County Business’ “21 for the 21 st Century” award. He has previously served on the Engineering Advisory Council for Texas A&M University’s Look College as well as the External Advisory Council for the College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Texas A&M University-Commerce. He was a recipient of the 1994 Outstanding Engineering Alumni award by the Look College.
